We specialize in treating trauma. If you have suffered from trauma you may be suffering from PTSD, depression, and anxiety. Cottonwood Counseling, LLC provides counseling services to adults, children, adolescents, and families. Our mission is to provide quality outpatient mental health services with integrity, compassion, kindness, and connection. Our goal is to combine our knowledge and expertise to provide the best care possible to the community.
Our Clinicians are trained in several modalities such as EMDR, CBT and DBT. We also provide Play Therapy and Sand Tray Therapy for children and adolescents.
Meet The Team
Yvonne Williams Casaus
Owner, Mental Health Clinician, LPCC, RPT
Yvonne is a Mom, Wife, Author, Speaker, Counselor, and Play Therapist. With a degree in Mechanical Engineering, she has been a Satellite Engineer, a Mission Planner, and has even worked for NASA. As the author of A DROP OF WATER: A SPIRITUAL JOURNEY, she was inspired to share from her knowledge as a Therapist and Suicide Loss Survivor to help others find encouragement and inspiration through loss. Yvonne is currently an independently licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LPCC) and a Registered Play Therapist (RPT). She is certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy and Sand Tray Therapy. She specializes in Trauma, PTSD, Depression, and Anxiety. She has been helping adults, children, adolescents, and families for over 13 years.
Mandy Lopez
Mental Health Clinician, LCSW
Mandy is a native New Mexican who completed her Bachelor’s degree in Human Development & Family Relations at the University of New Mexico in 2009. She first began her work with children and families in the Albuquerque area and in rural communities around the state. She later went on to pursue a Master’s degree in Social Work where she graduated from New Mexico Highlands University in 2013. Mandy is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has experience working with children, adolescents, and adults. She specializes in parenting issues, attachment disruptions, trauma, life transitions, healthy boundaries, depression and anxiety. Her approach to treatment is solution focused and centered in mindfulness practices and relational therapy. Mandy has training in play therapy and is certified as a Circle of Security Parenting Facilitator. Mandy is passionate about health and wellness as it relates to the mind-body connection. She enjoys discovering new ways to incorporate positive habits into her own lifestyle. Ultimately, Mandy strives to help her clients find meaning, joy and peace in the present and develop strength-based strategies for the future.
Amy McGhee
Mental Health Clinician, LCSW
Amy began her career after completing degrees at Centenary College of Louisiana and Louisiana Tech University. Prior to relocating to New Mexico, she worked for over 20 years in a community mental health agency, a children’s home and in private practice in Louisiana and Arkansas. Amy is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor and a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional. She provides therapy to individuals and families with an emphasis on self-esteem, attachment issues, and communication repair. She has a variety of skills that allow her to fit the treatment with the person and their particular situation. Amy offers a supportive warm relationship in the counseling session to assist the client through open discussion and the development of personal insight.
Craig Salisbury
Mental Health Clinician, LPCC
Craig Salisbury has over 20 years of experience as a therapist. He is licensed as a Clinical Counselor in both New Mexico and Illinois. He is fluent in Spanish and has experience providing individual and group therapy in Spanish. He has had experience working with chronically mentally ill clients and has provided on-call work in local hospitals to assess mental health emergencies. His current focus is helping people with trauma, depression, anxiety, and mood disorders. He also works with people going through difficult life changes. He has worked with adults and children that have been sexually abused. He has experience with couples counseling as well as domestic violence issues. While working in Illinois, the domestic violence shelter regularly referred clients to him for individual counseling. His personal goal is to create a safe, welcoming environment for clients to express themselves and address their personal issues. As a therapist, he wants to create a judgement free space for anyone that is coming to see him.
Suzanne Thornberry
Mental Health Clinician, LCSW
Suzanne is an Independently Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a Masters Degree from New Mexico Highlands University. She has more than 12 years of experience working in a variety of settings such as inpatient psychiatric, agency, clinical outpatient, crisis centers, schools and private practice. Suzanne specializes in working with adolescents and young adults as well as adult women experiencing major life transitions. She has advanced certifications in trauma therapy and her counseling style is greatly influenced by the needs and goals of each individual client and the therapeutic relationship that is formed. Some modalities used include: Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Solution Focused, Narrative Therapy and Motivational Interviewing. Suzanne’s approach to counseling is both strengths and empowerment based, non-judgemental, supportive and deeply compassionate. Suzanne has a long history of being a competitive athlete in running, cycling and triathlon. She is a former personal trainer and health coach. She believes in the overall connectedness of health between body, mind and spirit. When she isn’t working, she enjoys traveling, being outdoors and spending time with her 4 dogs.
Toby Unterfranz
Mental Health Clinician, LPCC
Toby is an Independently Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor dedicated to helping people navigate their issues with depression, anxiety and trauma. He combines his knowledge as a therapist and his own experiences, having dealt with a disability since a young age and recovering from a traumatic brain injury at the age of 24. He uses his education along with over 10 years of work experience in the mental health industry to help people overcome the most difficult of circumstances. He takes the time to learn the specific goals of his clients and teaches coping skills to deal with the obstacles currently in their way.
